Jobless Kericho youths are planning to hold peaceful demonstrations over what they term as ‘unfair selection and recruitment of 2019 census officials’ with some even threatening to boycott August exercise.
Former Majengo councilor has written to the Kericho OCS requesting to be allowed to demonstrate on Friday 12th July within the streets of Kericho town.
The recruitment exercise has been met with several complaints of unfairness and corruption. Jobless youths have accused the recruiters and the chiefs for receiving bribes and even giving out the jobs to the employed rather than the jobless.
“The whole exercise of recruiting personnel to support the CENSUS by KNBS MUST stop, the trainings MUST stop and the exercise be done afresh. The opportunities MUST be equitably distributed and people who already have jobs should not again scramble for such short contracts with young jobless youth.
I have received complaints from across the country and on this one we must all be solidly behind our jobless youth. Imagine even a jobless statistician, can’t be considered just because he couldn’t pay a bribe to the recruiting officer.
If the authorities don’t do this exercise afresh, Youth Leaders from across the country should mobilize in numbers and stop this corruption from going on by Monday.” One of the youth said.
The recruitment exercise was supervised by County Commissioners and area chiefs and assistant chiefs. Those to be recruited will be approximately 2,700 IT experts, 27,000 content supervisors and 135,000 enumerators.
For IT experts, an applicant is required to have at least an Diplom in IT and two years working experience, and must be a resident of the County. Content supervisors should posses at least a diploma in any field and experience while the enumerators are required to have at least a KCSE C plain.
Do you think the recruitment exercise has been free and fair?
